What we work on

Digital health

Many digital health and AI tools work well in pilots but never become part of everyday healthcare. We work on what comes after the pilot: making systems work together, data governance, trustworthy AI, training for health workers, and turning results into policy briefs and guidance that health authorities can use. We are developing this work with partners in Europe and Africa.

Digital technologies

We have built open innovation ecosystems for connected devices and test environments for internet research, for example in bIoTope (Horizon 2020) and MyFIRE (FP7). In the Barents region and along the Finnish border, we worked on AI, IoT and cybersecurity solutions for Arctic conditions (CroBoDDIT, DIT4BEARs).

Artificial intelligence

We work with AI in education and training, research and practical applications, together with Finland’s AI Accelerator. We are especially interested in how AI can be used responsibly and transparently in healthcare, public services, culture and media.

Green skills and climate

We develop teaching and training for the green transition and climate adaptation: summer schools, hackathons, online courses and living labs in the Nordic and Baltic countries, the Arctic, Europe and Africa. Examples include GreenADeN, LiLaCC, AGreeDA and 3CNet.

Culture and society

We also run projects on culture, media and language, for example on media literacy, the ethical use of AI in creative work, and meetings between people with different languages and backgrounds. Read more on our Culture & Society page.
